The main purpose of the Fifth International Conference “Modern Culture and Communication” (MCC-2025), held at St. Petersburg State University from October 16 to 18, 2025, was to discuss topical issues of cultural transformation in the modern information space. The conference was attended by researchers of trends in the development of various aspects of the culture of modern society, university professors, staff of research organizations, graduate students, students.

The main theme of the conference was “Culture in conditions of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity”. The social significance and relevance of this topic is due to the intensification of the pace of technological development, which is one of the main factors in creating a state of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity in society. Digitalization as a global process affects all forms of human existence, all types of human activity, leading them to transformation. Culture is also under the constant multidirectional influence of digitalization processes, which leads to the need to develop new approaches to the study of the processes of preservation and transmission of culture in conditions of instability, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. The conference sections discussed the factors that create problematic conditions for the preservation of the “core of culture” and the transmission of the “cultural code”. In their reports, the conference participants noted the crucial role of information and communication technologies in the processes of cultural transformation, which are the dominant communication technology. The constructive dialogue on the sidelines of the conference contributes to the identification of patterns of the processes of preservation and transformation of culture in conditions of volatility and uncertainty, in which new generations are being formed, designed in the future to serve as a protective belt of the “core of culture”.
