Friend-or-foe identification in business correspondence: what future specialists should know

Abstract

Within the convergence of university education with the labor market, it is important to prepare a future specialist for integration into professional and corporate cultures. The article discusses the features of business correspondence in Russian and English in terms of multiple professional spheres and corporate cultures. The objectives of this study are to describe the phenomenon of interlanguage interference in business (formal and informal) correspondence in English and Russian; to identify differences in the design of correspondence in different industries and corporate cultures; to describe processes such as de-formalization, pidginization and creolization of the language in business correspondence; and to develop recommendations for future specialists. The research uses methods such as observation, linguistic and comparative analysis of real correspondence in different industries and developing recommendations to future specialists. The results of the study can be interesting for students, teachers, and specialists in all industries.
