Russian Theater in China and Intercultural Dialogue

Abstract

In the era of global cultural exchange, Russian theater, with its rich humanistic content, is gaining increasing popularity in China. Our research focuses on the reception of Russian dramatic imagery and schools of stagecraft by Chinese audiences. We also aim to highlight the significance of Russian art for the contemporary intercultural dialogue between Russia and China. Particularly fascinating are the Chinese adaptations of K.S. Stanislavsky’s system and the stage interpretations of Chekhov’s works (“The Cherry Orchard,” “The Seagull”) on the Chinese stage. It can be concluded that the assimilation of Russian theater in China is not limited to the level of performance methods and stage techniques alone. It extends to the perception of the ethical values conveyed through Russian drama, as well as the creative adaptation of Russian theatrical aesthetics. Thus, it can be argued that the modern intercultural dialogue between Russia and China is reaching a new level.
