CODES IN AZERBAIJANI CARPETS

Abstract


In the history of decorative and applied arts of Azerbaijan, in particular to carpet weav-ing, many examples can be cited that since ancient times the carpet had great functional significance in everyday life and aesthetic purpose. It concentrates the artistic heritage and traditions of the people who, by hand, using naturally dyed threads, interpreted their philosophy of vision in carpets, thereby subsequently creating a number of carpet schools.
After all, every ornament, corner and particle of the carpet contains encoded information, that is, its symbol. Since ancient times women were engaged in carpet weaving, who reflected events taken from life or phenomena related to their life, silhouettes of animals, etc. In terms of its content, a carpet is a work that tells about the world. There are carpets of various themes, in which you can find the seasons (seasons) of the year, periods of human life - agriculture, cattle breeding, hunting, fishing, sowing and harvesting, various cults and rituals, for prayers and burial of a person. In terms of its content, a carpet is a work that tells about the world. What is characteristic about the carpet is its composition, plot, motives and its corresponding symbols. Azerbaijan was inhabited by nomadic set-tlers, who in everyday life had carpets containing symbolic ornaments that contribute to the elimination and expulsion of malevolent animals, as well as snakes. A large concen-tration of ethnic peoples living in Azerbaijan has identified and established their own schools. According to the definition of the largest carpet specialist in Azerbaijan - artist Latif Kerimov, there are the following carpet schools: “Baku, Guba, Shirvan; Ganja, Ga-zakh; Karabakh and Tabriz". The article analyzes the historical development of the sym-bolism of carpet art of Azerbaijan, shows the connection of carpet ornaments with cultur-al traditions by examples.
