Abstract

Any cultural phenomenon goes through the stages of its origin, gradual formation and transformation into a sustainable socio-cultural education. Heavy metal music is no exception to this rule, which originated as underground and went from complete rejection in society to embedding as a sustainable component in modern global society with its consumer paradigm. A whole system is being built around heavy metal music, consisting of media resources (magazines, ratings/charts, websites), the industry of producing the final product in the form of an album (on a CD or vinyl record), touring and concert activities, the release of clothing, accessories and various kinds of trappings. Like any extraordinary socio-cultural phenomenon, it has given rise to a stable subculture and has become the object of scientific research. At the same time, it is considered both as one of the many problematic scientific factors and as an independent research object. The purpose of this work is to identify the contexts of scientific discourse in the field of heavy metal music, as well as to substantiate the development of a new interdisciplinary field of scientific research Metal Music Studies. Various aspects of the formation of this scientific direction are considered both on a global scale and in Russia.
