Visual culture of the post-soviet space as a legacy of soviet culture

M. Yu. Tivikova

Abstract

The article explores the visual culture of the post-Soviet space, considering it as a continuation and reinterpretation of the visual aesthetics of the Soviet era. The author argues that post-Soviet artists, filmmakers, architects, and designers frequently refer to the Soviet past in their work, a phenomenon justified by the widespread nostalgia for the Soviet era that exists in society. Various aspects of everyday life and visual culture can be seen as manifestations of this nostalgia, adapted to meet the demands of contemporary society. The article will be relevant for figures in the field of visual anthropology, cultural studies, media communications, sociology, as well as for a wide range of readers.
