Melomania in modern culture: the production and stimulation of music addiction

N. A. Romanov

Abstract

The article examines the uniqueness of melomania in modern culture and analyzes the actual specifics of technological methods of its production and maintenance in humans. In particular, the infrastructural features of the distribution and reproduction of musical phonograms are considered, the characteristic features of voicing private and public socio-cultural spaces with musical sound are outlined, the functional and applied aspects of using music as a means to adjust a person's worldview, his psycho-emotional state and spiritual life are noted. It is concluded that the unhindered and quantitatively unlimited consumption of musical phonograms and the various variations of their use contribute to the formation of mass melomania in modern culture, which manifests itself not so much in the form of an insatiable attraction to listening to music, but rather in legitimizing widespread listening to music and being in acoustic spaces voiced by musical sound as a sociocultural norm or an inalienable standard of everyday life.
