S. I. WITKIEWICZ AND HIS CONCEPTION OF METAPHYSICAL THEATRE

Abstract

The article discusses the concept of metaphysical theatre classic of twentieth century Polish drama S. I. Witkiewicz. The basic idea, developed by S. I. Witkiewicz throughout his creative life, can be formulated as follows: the theatre must be a temple to experience the «metaphysical sense» of a competition with the Being and birth of the movement of the soul to the philosophical self-knowledge.
