S. I. WITKIEWICZ AND HIS CONCEPTION OF METAPHYSICAL THEATRE

Abstract


The article discusses the concept of metaphysical theatre classic of twentieth century Polish drama S. I. Witkiewicz. The basic idea, developed by S. I. Witkiewicz throughout his creative life, can be formulated as follows: the theatre must be a temple to experience the «metaphysical sense» of a competition with the Being and birth of the movement of the soul to the philosophical self-knowledge. For this in the theater, there must be freedom of deformation of the reality, and the play should be put together so that all its heterogeneous elements were subordinated to the power of artistic inspiration of the playwright, Director and actors and steel General work of Pure Form.
