RESEMBLING PHOTOGRAPHY, OR HOW TO RECOGNIZE A PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGE
Abstract
An ontological definition of photography based on the technical processed used falls short: There are images produced with photographic means that would not be recognized as photographs and vice versa. How then can photographic images be defined? The paper argues that in photography not only the image resembles the object but that resemblance also connects the images we recognize as photographic.
