Abstract

The article describes the lexical relationship between the Telengit and Mongolian languages as this relationship determines the ethnogenetic and ethnocultural relations between Telengits and Mongols. The Telengit language is one of the southern dialects of the Altaic language. As to morphology and syntax, the grammatical system of the Telengit language is the same as that of the Altai-Kizhi language which is the basis of the modern Altaic literary language. As to lexis, this dialect has its own specific features. The author tries to describe some lexical peculiarities of the Telengit language in order to discover the integrating and differentiating linguistic mechanisms which determine the interaction with the Mongolian language as native speakers of Mongolian have always been in touch with those of Telengit.
