THE SYNTHESIS OF ART TRADITIONS OF EUROPE AND CHINA: LIFE AND WORK OF GUISEPPE CASTIGLIONE (1688–1766)

Abstract


In the article the first experience of cultural synthesis of the West and China, associated with the name of the Italian Jesuit and artist G. Castiglione, who served at the court of the emperors of the Qing Dynasty. The author analyzes the techniques of Chinese painting and how Castiglione used them in his work. The conclusion is that Italian artist made some contribution to the development of traditional Chinese painting.
